Rio is a 6 month old male Pointer cross Whippet. Please say a gentle hello to our new boy lovely Rio he has been in our care for the last two weeks with Aunty Beth. Rio has had a horrible start to his young life he was found with his siblings thrown in a swimming pool in Spain and left to die and it was not for people hearing their cries they would not have made it. Rio has been in the care of the Charity we work with in Spain there was a short video made of him while he was in their care and younger.

We do not know how Rio was treated before he came to safety but we feel it was not good. When Rio first came into our care this was the first time he had been in a home and the poor boy was terrified he was with his brother who is much more confident being one of the lucky ones who was fostered not long after he came in when very young in Spain. Rio so wanted to be friends but really struggled with his confidence and is scared he is going to be hurt, he would hide under the bench in the kitchen its so sad to watch such a beautiful sweet dog who so want to join in and make friends but just feeling terrified by the whole new experience of living in a home.

Very slowly as its still early days he has come out of his shell, what we have learnt about Rio is that out on a walk he is a completely different dog he becomes happy, confident, tail up and he loves it. In the house he is settling and will except being made a fuss and will lay with his head on Beth laps and enjoy these moments now and relaxes without wanting to bolt, he has started eating properly and playing with his brother, he is also house trained already. Rio although scared has never shown aggression he has such a sweet loving nature, but he really needs a special home, someone with experience with maybe puppy farm dogs, dogs that have had to learn to trust again, he really wants too but it will not be over night and will take time but he is only young and he will get there.

His sister who was a very similar nature to him joined us over a month ago and was rehomed she is doing really well living with a couple and their young dog we can send people this update so they can see the progress she has made and Rio will be similar if we get the right people for him. He needs either a couple or one person on their own he is not going to suit a busy household – another dog but not a dominant dog a gentle dog like him that will show him the ropes so either an older dog or a young one who will play with him.

This is him out walking with his foster home this week he was a bit wary of me, he would suit a rural area.

We hope someone see’s this lovely gentle sensitive boy and falls in love with him like we have, some kind person with a lot of love and patience who will help Rio get over his fears and grow in confidence in a loving secure environment.

Rio is fully vaccinated, chipped, blood tested and has his own Pet Passport.
