Appollo is an 20 month old male Collie/Pointer Cross. Sadly, Appollo found himself abandoned on the streets of Cyprus as a young puppy and taken to the shelter, and he has never known any other life.
He has not left the shelter since he was a small puppy. His life and experiences have been confined to his kennel and an occasional short walk when the shelter has volunteers.
Appollo can be a little shy of strangers, but he has got to know the shelter staff very well and soon comes out of his shell when he realises humans have treats. That’s when we see the awesome dog we know he can be.
Appollo has medium to high energy levels, likely due to his Collie/Pointer cross, which is also the reason that he is so bright and clever. He absolutely loves training and learning and would flourish with the right adopter who could give him the physical and mental stimulation he craves.
Not only is Appollo full of energy, but also full of love. He enjoys nothing more than some affection, but there’s so little of it to go around at a busy and large shelter. So, when Appollo does get his chance for some human kisses and cuddles, he is in his element.
Appollo’s ideal forever home would be with active adopters who recognise that his energy and intelligence need to be channelled with lots of exercise and challenging long walks.
He would be a fantastic agility dog. He gets immense pleasure from being taught new tricks and, with support, will soon learn about a new life in a home where he is loved.
We think Appollo would be best as an only dog. He could possibly live with a calmer female but may react to males. This behaviour is often displayed in a shelter environment where dogs can be stressed but may not be the case once he’s in a home environment.
Appollo could live with children over 10 years but we would advise that he doesn’t live with cats.
We don’t want Appollo to continue with his limited life in the shelter; he deserves what every dog in this world deserves—a loving home, people who will invest in him, and give him the love and affection that he craves.
We know that in return, he will be a loyal and loving companion to anyone prepared to give him just those few things. It’s not a lot to ask, is it?
Appollo can fly to the UK as soon as a forever home is offered.
