Fern – 2-3 year old female Pointer Cross

Fern is a 2-3 year old female Pointer Cross. She was adopted in February 2021 after being rescued from the streets of Cyprus as a stray puppy. She’s had a lovely life since arriving in the UK, but unfortunately the arrival of a new baby has changed the dynamic to the point where Fern no longer feels comfortable in the house, and we’re therefore seeking a new home for her.

She is currently living in Essex and loves having a rural environment to explore, but recently she has been reluctant to come indoors and has been allowed to wander freely. Recently she has strayed into a nearby farmer’s field, and most worryingly, onto a busy road.

We are concerned for her safety and therefore need to find Fern a new foster or forever home as soon as possible. Fern is a gentle, calm and sensitive dog. She can be nervous and takes time to build trust with new people, but always appears to be more relaxed in female company. She can however live with men as long as they’re willing to be patient with her. Once she knows you she will gladly curl up beside you for cuddles and enjoys the affection.

Although she can be cautious she has never shown an ounce of aggression, or, to her foster family’s knowledge, even barked at a stranger before. She takes treats extremely gently and is always polite and obedient around people. Fern is looking for a home with another dog. She currently lives with a female Labrador who she utterly adores, and having the company of another dog will help to improve her confidence as she settles into a new home.

She is comfortable around other dogs, very friendly, playful and sociable. We feel she will be happiest having a companion and therefore will only be considering homes with established resident dogs. Fern enjoys her walks and behaves really well on the lead. She walks nicely alongside her family but will pull if she sees something move suddenly. Due to her breed type, she has a natural prey drive so she does enjoy chasing after birds and rabbits. This in mind we’re looking for a home without cats or small furries.

Fern has never shown any adverse behaviour towards children, but due to her change in behaviour since the arrival of the baby we’re looking for a home with children aged 10+, which she’s used to living with. Fern is also looking for a home based semi-rurally, or rurally. She needs access to a garden, but it must be secure, and her family will need to be aware they might need to persuade her to come inside at times. She needs to learn a new routine and adapt in her own time, but once she has settled Fern is such a loving and loyal companion.
