Lulu is a 3 year old female Pointer cross Labrador. This lovely girl is another dog rescued from a pound in Spain, I had been given funding to help a couple of dogs it can be the most heart breaking task as you know you cannot help them all but there is always one or two that will tug at the heart strings more and this time it was this lovely girl. She was in a kennel with another dog hiding behind him quiet and unassuming, I called her and held my hand out and with her tail between her legs she gentle came over.
I took her out for a walk along with other dogs to try and get to know her a bit better, I was told to be careful as she had slipped her lead a few times because she was so scared. My heart broke for her sad face and I knew we had to help her being the sort of big black dog that will go unnoticed and will possibly never make it out. So we reserved her and I came back a few days later and brought her home with me hoping I had done the right thing. This is her that first day when I saw her lovely tail wag for the first time.
I was also fostering another little dog from the same pound so she joined him with no problems. That first night she slept quietly by my side in the bedroom she was so tired I never heard a sound. She was clean and we all had a gentle walk in the morning followed by a lovely breakfast of chicken and rice.
I quickly became apparent she had been someones pet she walks so gently on the lead, she knew how to sit for a treat and was very comfortable with the noises in the house. I did walk her of the lead and she was good at coming back but was on the look out for rabbits and having a good run around. I also took her to a local bar coffee and she just settled down by my side.
Lulu is a very gentle lovely natured dog, I think probably someone has been heavy handed with her and she lacks confidence but in the right hands she will put her pass behind her, I think she would suit a more rural home than town and with another dog if possible but not essential – would like her to have an experienced home who have an understanding of dogs not because she is difficult but she is a sensitive lovely girl and we want to get it right for her.
The whole time I had her I never saw any aggression towards other dogs, people etc even though she was scared at times. She was unsure of the car to begin with but soon settled down on the back seat with no problems. She is in foster with a lady with other dogs and was very relaxed around them when dropped off there with no problems, two adults dogs and two puppies.
Lulu has been blood tested, vaccinated and will be spayed before she leaves our care.
